Culled info
The yellow belly variant has a yellowish chest and belly. This yellowish color is *very* faint in smaller specimens (you probably won't notice it in smaller pecimens) and becomes more pronounced in larger specimens. The Yellow Belly variant is very rare, availability is highly unpredictable.
I would say around 4 inches you should see yellow

Actually 2 to 3 inches is considered a medium yellow belly and that is a very good price for a fish that is that hard to come by.

Congratulations on the find and I would love to see some pics of him can I assume you are quarantining him

I guess you can only get them during the spring and then after that they are hard to find.
If you see one at your pet store get it if you can

Thanks for the complement and by the way make sure you don’t get sticker shock when you see the price
I've seen prices around 100 bucks ... it's only money and I'm not participating in the recession

Are the yellow beelies really that rare?? I see one at my LFS every time i'm there.
Not any more. I think they found the mother load in the African part of the I.O. (Kenya, Maldives)They are readily available now, and seem to be getting cheaper.
