Hey Seth, I am sorry to ruin your happieness, but the batfish is a bad idea. He won't do well in the 30, they get very large. Sorry man. The coral beauty will do well though!

This is from Lion_Crazz's fish to be avoided thread:
-Batfish - Most batfish are extremely sensitive fish and do not ship well at all. The one exception is the orbicularis. This is a very hardy specimen, however, it should be noted, that this fish grows to be extremely tall. A 200 gallon tank is a minimum for this fish.

and no im not taking him lol
heres what i found man.....
Quick Stats: Orbiculate Batfish
Family: Ephippididae
Range: Indo-Pacific
Size: Up to 22 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Tank Set-up: Marine: Coral or rock, plants
Reef Compatible: No
Tank Conditions: 72-78ºF; sg 1.020-1.025; pH 8.1-8.4
Minimum Tank Capacity: 180 gallon
Light: HighTemperament: Peaceful
Swimming Level: No specific level
Care Level: Moderate
The Orbiculate Batfish, is also called the Round Batfish, Orbic Platax, and the Orbic Batfish. A round body of reddish brown and large round fins contribute to this fish's commanding presence. It can potentially grow to an adult size of 22 inches.
It is peaceful and hardy when provided with a deep tank of at least 180 gallons and plenty of unobstructed room to swim. Not a good reef dweller, it will eat many types of sessile invertebrates including corals and anemones. As with all Batfish, the Orbiculate is susceptible to ich.
A varied diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, scallops, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, and frozen herbivore preparations will help the Orbiculate to thrive, especially when fed three times per day.

Thanks Dan, see Seth what a little research does. Dude, you should know better as you are on here all the time. Sorry, don't mean to flame, just asking WHY??

Did you just buy him today? I would take him back and give the guy at ***** a piece of your mind. Print out some facts on the bat to bring with you so he can't try and say he is right and you just got some bad info from other sources.

Don't need to feel stupid, just counseled. Ha! If upgrade very soon is not an option, see if the guy will take him back. Or ask another LFS for a trade. You will more than likely lose money, but better to do that than losing the fish.
Yes, he will be ok for several months, but they grow fast. I always stayed clear of them because they are like spotted sweetlips, cool as juvi's but LARGE as adults. HTH.
