That puppy is adorable, looks just like you;) Ever notice that most "pound/rescue" puppies have some chow in them? Personally, I believe it's all in how you raise them. If he does have some chow, just be sure to take him to puppy school or somewhere while he's very young and he can get socialized to other dogs, people and children. When our Airdale was a puppy (we still do) we took him to the little league park and let lots of kids play with him and he got to meet lots of other dogs too. Now he's 4 years old, big and I swear a kid could pull his hair out or ride him and he just puts up with it. Not that we allow that but kids will try anything. Have fun with your new baby

I agree with Lisa, feed your dog Iams. I have a border/shepherd cross and that is all she will eat...she won't even look at anything else unless she hasn't eaten anything in a long time. I find it heklps them grow up well and contributes to less yard waste than your less expensive brands. I also agree that pound puppies make the best pets. When I got my dog she had been abandoned at the side of the road with the rest of the litter. I picked her but there were 7 other puppies that had to go to the shelter because I couldn't take them all
:( Please don't buy a purebred dog (sorry breeders)when you can give an extremely sad dog a chance to live a good life. Not only this, but consider that a lot of purebreds have a lot of genetic health problems and by getting a mixed breed dog we often avoid these issues.

Congrads Rye,
He is a very good looking pup. I would have to agree that it looks like a lab mix. Probally going to be the best dog there ever is.
I have to agree with Blueberry on feeding him Iams. I used to feed my husky's Eukanuba (Made by Iams) tell 2 years ago. My female husky got stones in her kidneys so I have to feed her a special diet now. So all 3 dogs get the special food now.

I don't think everyone is bashing chows, they just get a bad rap like Dobi's, Pit Bulls, Rottie's and German Shephards. I truelly beleive that it is all on how to raise/treat your dog. The owners are the ones who train dogs to be agressive. Everyone always comments on how well my dogs behave, that they act like they are part of the family. Well I treat them like they are part of the family. Just my .02

Hey All...
Rye...good luck with your new dog...
As far as dog food goes, the brand of food and the
quality of food should be tailored to the individual dogs
personal needs....
Dog foods are first judged in quality by the first
ingredient listed in the contents....meaning, if the first
ingredient is CHICKEN, then the larger percentage of the
contents of this particular dog food will be CHICKEN...
however, if the first ingredient is listed as CORN MEAL,then
the larger percentage of this particular food will be
CORN MEAL...in other words....
if CHICKEN is listed as the second ingredient, then a
smaller percentage of this particular food will be CHICKEN...
THE FIRST ITEM LISTED IS THE MAIN INGREDIENT IN A
PARTICULAR DOG FOOD...DOGS ARE CARNIVORES AND
THEIR DIET SHOULD REFLECT THAT....
Another item to note is...an individual dogs activity level.
If the dog is very active, then the dog should be fed a
higher protein food for that dogs metabolism....
Other factors also play into a dogs diet such as, but not
limited to, age, health, weight, excercise level etc.....
I will stop here....hope it helps....
Regards...

We actually bought a 20lb bag of Eukanuba for him and I am going to see how he takes to that for a little while. I have a small bag of Iams that I may try too. We will see what works.
Any more opinions on what the new pooch is a mix of?

A good friend just got a new pup and she did something that I thought was smart--their vet was ok with them bringing in the dog like once a week at first to get weighed and oohed and aahed by the office staff--a nice introduction to the office, a chance to socialize with other dogs in the waiting room, a ride in the car, etc. all good experiences for the pup. Did you name him after Colonel Sanders? Good luck, enjoy!

What a beautiful puppy!! Love the rich color and the black mask.
Who knows what else is in him......although he looks a little "houndy" so maybe ridgeback or something.
We showed a beautiful Chow Chow many moons ago that was the sweetest dog in the world, Ch. Charkays Grand Marnier O'Palm, aka "Barney Chow chow", he went to Brazil after we had him and had a nice long life.
We feed all our dogs, show dogs and pet boarders, Sensible choice Lamb and Rice. it could be hard to find sometimes but the dogs like it, eat it, fewer stools (good thing) and keeps them in wonderful flesh and coat.
Have fun. you can always ask me for advice, my husband and i have been showing dogs for over 30 years so we know a little :)
