I got stuck.....

All over a stupid turtle...
Noticed a turtle a couple nights ago on the road, and saw him again last night, so I grabbed it, and decided to relocate him instead of seeing him smashed on the busy road.
Knew a decent spot to take him that's undeveloped. So I jumped in my Dad's truck and started off. It's up a ways on the creek we usually take the dogs swimming, and I'd had gone tubing at that specific area, and floated down to the dog park before. But there was a road that lead deeper in the foresty area that I hadn't been on, but from Bing satellite images, knew it looped back out.. So why not? I said.... Big mistake. The road, if you call it that, basically runs between the creek , and a pond. After just a few moments on the road, I knew we were in too far.
Well, as luck would have it, the pond started to overflow into the road. Guessing were the road was and were the pond started, I dropped the right front wheel off, and the truck slipped partially into the pond. I tried to rim ride the pond, but the embankment down to the pond was too steep. I couldn't get the front wheel back up/ Managed to do a number the foliage too.

I ended up literally about 300 feet where it opened back up. How I got a stock 2wd GMC Envoy with an open diff, that far into the woods is beyond me. I knew that I had to keep my speed up, cuz if I slowed down, I was done for. Which would have been fine, if the road was wider then a bike trail. Luckily the tow truck company I called, knew exactly where I was, and send someone in there personal pick-up to come "snatch" me outta there.

I was going to diss on ya until the 2 wheel drive part. I used to take my F150 2 wheel drive though some pretty harry stuff, trick is to keep the truck moving. Once you stop (Or sink
) you're hosed.

Yea, I slowed down a little bit because we started whacking the branches on the trees pretty good. I didn't want to crack the windshield. Not sure if more speed would have helped much if any though, other then completely putting the truck in the drink...

HHMMMMM. I'm not sure why, but I felt the need to say something.........
However......I'm at a loss for words really. It sounds to me like an excuse to drive dads ride.........and the kid in me says, OK.

OH...did you let the turtle out there??
Wasn't overly enthusted.... Pulling it out, the truck slid all the way into the pond, and bottom of the footwell/carpet area got wet, as water came in through the doors. Right down I have all the seats out of the truck, letting it dry, and tomorrow, the truck will get a full detail.
Yea, right after we finished, there was a nice high and dry spot for him.

Aquaknight, let me preface with pure honesty and tell you that yes, I did laugh a bit...ok a lot when I saw the pic... All over a turtle. But definite Kudos to you for looking out for the little guy. Looks like a nice safe spot from vehicles...about 3 feet in front of your truck

Truck seems fine. Most of the exposed electric stuff is up higher. Granted, we only had about half of foot to play with, and thinking about it now, I got pretty hard lucky, that the pond was hard bottom. I mean, had the pond been like soft marsh stuff, who knows how far the truck could have sank....
Here is a Bing bird's eye of the area. The red is the road, and the aquablue is the creek. The extension part of the road on the top right is where I've been before, tubing down the creek. The pond where I got stuck is at the bottom, I nearly made it out

lol, now that is funny.
As for 2 wheel drive. We went to a giant concert out in a pasture. To make a long story short, we all parked in a pasture, and during the day they got about 3 inches of rain. To get out of the pasture, we had to up this hill. Nothing major on a dry day. Just the general rolling land of north Texas. Anyway, The exit was turned into this giant muddy mess. With every one's truck littered on the side, because they couldn't make it up the hill. We were in my then girl friend (now wife's) front wheel drive full size oldsmobile. And we had to get back because my brother's graduation was that night. So most of the area was still grass (where these morons hadn't torn it up). After having about 10 people tell me I couldn't make it, and not to do it. I drove up the hill behind me (kinda gravelly) then drove down the hill, built up speed, and hit the muddy mess, ended up going up the hill sideways, (roostertailing all the kid's nice new trucks daddy bought em) straightened out the car just in time to cross the cattle guard. So I got out once we were on pavement, took a big bow, and hopped back into my car. It was fun stuff.

We used to hit a popular off road spot in California. We would do our trail rides and try a few hills. Then we'd pull up to the mud hole and watch all the high school pukes who's daddy bought them a new 4x4 go at it. We'd sit back with a cooler of beer and make bets on which idiot would break or get stuck first. Good times. There was a guy with an old wrecker who parked there. He would charge whatever the guys had in their wallets to winch them out of the mud. This was in the mid 80's and the guy said he could clear a couple grand on a good weekend.

LOL...the turtle said man! I thought I got away from here, and the weird giant brought me right back...now I have to go all the way back to lay my eggs.
I doubt it was the same turtle. I think they travel to lay their eggs, and the hatched tiny turtles follow the horizon to find their way back to the water.
When I lived in Lake Geneva, we got a notice in the mail to watch out for the traveling turtles, and to please refrain from using our outdoor lights because it confused the little guys trying to find the horizon.
