So sorry to hear about the loss!! Its never easy losing a beloved family pet. My dogs are my life, I dont even want to think about losing them. As someone else mentioned, please check out local rescues. I actually run a rescue, but its bully breeds, I rarely rescue labs as everyone wants one, and other rescues scoop them up in a heartbeat. I rescue mostly pitties and american bulldogs, the ones no one else wants to give a chance, but the ones who are SO thankful for the people who do. Check out www.petfinder.com or www.1800saveapet.com for doggies in need of homes near you. I am just down the road from you, so if I hear of any I can let you know. Or, check out my site, I only have a few listed right now, I just lost my 1 foster home, so I havent been able to save any more dogs...I can only have so many with me. :( www.petfinder.com/shelters/FL527.html

i hear ya man. my pit was 14 and had fluid in the lungs. we put him down 2 weeks ago. you know once you cry about it and tell the animal how much you love him/her you will understand that putting an animal in pain for any longer would just not be ok. Im am really sorry to hear about your baby. if i could i would give ya a hug.
just imagine they are up there running in endless fields of doggie clouds of course with a huge doggie smile saying catch me if you can

This little sweet girl came into my rescue today. She's a german shepherd/pittie mix. I'm treating her for an ear infection right now, and she may need to have surgery to correct hematomas in both ears, but that will be taken care of before she's able to be adopted. She's the sweetest little girl, LOVES to give kisses. She's 8-10 weeks old, her name is Hanna. These pics are from a few days ago, when she was first picked up by a friend of mine, I will take some new ones this week. Anyway, here she is...she's SO much cuter than these pics can show!! I know she's not a lab, but she's still cute as anything, and needs a wonderful home to call her own.

awwww... sweet face.
she musta been seriously itchy to have hematomas in BOTH ears. Do you know what kind of infection she has? We do hematoma surgeries all the time where I work, the dogs typically do really well, with very few recurring issues. She'll be good as new in no time

It must be so awesome to work with dogs or animals for that matter. That is a loveable looking face. I'll keep you posted.
If you and your bf want to do some lobstering your boat or mine let me know because I just ate my last tail lastnight
. I have some shallow spots up here in Jup. And being that I'm out of lobs its time to go..

Yes, I had to put my 11 year old dog down three months after my wife of 13 years died.
It is a terrible and lost feeling that only other pet people can understand. But while no two human or pet relationships can ever be replaced forming new relationships is the best therapy in the long run.
I hope you remember the good memories and heal soon.

Man sorry about your loss. A few years ago we)my familly) lost our beloved mini yorkie Hershey. She drowned in our swimming pool sadly. They're very loyal dogs & protect everyone. When everyone was playing in the pool shw would always run after them barking when they jumped in. Then one day she was doing so & I guess ran a bit to far & into the pool. Our pool is very odd shaped & nobody noticed untill it was too late. They are extremely poor swimmers with their short legs, so keep that in mind anyone who has one.
Now we have a mini pinscher (Iris) & a beagle (Lilo). They are full time outside dogs as my Mom is a severe ashmatic & I have pretty bad allergies. We have made sure they know how to swim & get out of the pool. Which they can both do pretty good, though Iris is much faster than Lilo. I guess because min pins have long legs & a lean muscular bodies, whereas beagles have shorter legs & kind of a fattier body. We love them both very much, but still miss Hershey.

Hey i know what you are feeling. About 5 yrs ago i had to take my pitbull in and have her put to sleep as well.
She was 13 and i had her for 11 1/2 yrs. She had cancer and arthritus. We took her in for the cancer once and about 3 months later it was all back and then some. The vet said he could try again.
It was the hardest decision i had to make but also the easiest too if that makes sense. I decided the best thing for her "Katie" was to end the agony she is going through and prolong it no further.
I told the vet i would take a week to spend quality time with her then bring her in. I took her in for the last time and stayed when the vet gave her the shot. I had to stay with my best friend to the very end. I owed that to her for her years of loyality to me.
I didn't want to jump into getting another dog until i was ready. It took about 2 yrs until i wanted another dog. I now have an American Bulldog named AnnaBelle which i love to death.
AnnaBelle didn't replace Katie in my family she just started a new chapter which i hope will last as long as Katie did God willing. I am truly sorry for your loss.

I did the same thing, gave her a week of just a bunch of love and took her in and was petting her when the Dr. gave the shot. The Dr. said she was ready to go as she didnt resist. She is in doggie heaven with her sis :joy: and im sure they are having fun. Thanks everyone for all of the responses, I really appreciate it.

I forgot to ask what exactly she has. They just did the swab and test and gave me some cleaner and Mal-Otic and said to come back in 2 weeks for a recheck. They said they dont see it often where both ears get that infected and get hematomas. She's just a sweet girl, I want the best for her!!

I lost my 18 yr old kitty a little over a year ago. She was my b-day present when I turned two. I still think of her all the time, and get teary eyed. I wasnt able to be there when she was put down. That broke my heart. But I know she's in kitty heaven. She had a brain tumor which we didnt know about until the night she had to be put down. My parents found her on the kitchen floor, she couldnt move. She was the best, such a sweet girl. Its not easy, even after its been so long.

im sorry. I got Sasha when i was 2 and she was one. I even remember chasing her around in the meeting room of the humane society! its hard to think Sasha's gone because she was always there. Like yours she was a sweety girl. Sasha also couldnt move anymore. she couldnt even lift her head to eat so at the end i was hand feeding her while she was laying down. It was hard to watch her...it was like looking at death. You could tell her body was just shutting down. Poor gilr! at least now she can be with her best buddy Beamer! those 2 kitties were so cute together!

Well as I stated in my post above I knew it wouldn't be long .... I had her put down Tuesday. It became a qualitiy of life issue and dogs have a special way of letting you know when it's time. I got her when she was a pup 13 years ago and have nothing but great memories with her, but my heart is broken. I feel for all of you!
