***** is rediculous! They don't care about the animals at all! They never take care of any of them how they should and then they try to give advice as well! All they care about is selling! I have seen some pretty sick and neglected animals at *****, I don't know how they get away with it. It is sad to know that even if you save some from their store they are just going to order more and the neglect will continue on! If only we could save them all! At least you were able to save yours, good for you!

8x8, the petcos in the dallas area are horrible aren't they??? As far as your tank being a new one, do what i do. I buy the rubble and sandy muck at the bottom of my lfs LR tank, and throw it in my fuge, after doing this afew weeks later my tank is loaded with pods!

DANG yet another ***** bashing thread?
Look, some Petcos are bad. Some are not. If you don't like them, don't buy ANYTHING there. So many times I hear that "oh I went to buy blah blah but they are HORRIBLE to their animals, aren't they?" Well why are you even in the store?? If you are in the store, then you are supporting the conditions the animals are in.
It is not a good thing, IMO, to "save" an animal because they sold it, didn't they? So they will go buy another who will be in the same postion. If they all died on them, maybe they would not carry them. But it is also difficult to avoid doing that; it is normal compassion and so it is understandable.
To be honest I have NO idea how good or bad local *****'s are because unless it is an emergency, I won't purchase anything from them. I will not buy Tetra products unless I'm desperate because of a news segment bit they did when Nemo came out. I'm not saying "oh I really hated it...." and then buying their stuff.
But invariably on these all too common threads where ***** comes up, people seem to know exactly how bad things are and how bad the staff is, which means you are spending time in the store. :notsure:
I am hopeful that people can focus on the original question here which was how to provide for this fish. If it continues on with ***** bashing, just like a thread - I dunno - not two days ago and two days before that - it doesn't have a bright future.

Sorry for the short fuse on this but honestly, it comes up WAY to frequently! Lets overlook for once the word "*****" for ONCE and actually try and help the fish! :happyfish

To be honest, I am a new tx residents who has never had a problem with *****'s in Pa, the ones I went to were clean, so I wasn't saying all petcos are horrible, maybe just the ones in Tx (just kidding) Like any chain, you have great management and lousy management. Maybe its a state regulation issue, some are more strict on conditions, just don't know  :notsure: . Anyhow sorry for any bashing I did on this thread

Most people simply do not understand that by supporting the so-called "good *****'s" you support the entire chain. All are owned by corporate in San Diego with no local franchise ownership. All dollars lead to San Diego so if you support one you support them all.
Live animal sales make up about 5% of their gross profit. Most likely, they really do not care if you purchase a live animal as they make their profits off of all the other products. The live animals are simply a dog and pony show to get you to buy other products. by luring you to the store
It might make one feel good, buying an animal that is sick and starving and in an inadequate system, but this only encourages the chain to buy more. Purchasing one and placing it in a system that is inadequate also does little.
While some may not like the bash ***** threads, it is an oppurtunity to educate the public as to the ***** corporate stucture. Buy doing so, hopefully the fish are helped as others decide to take their $ elsewhere.
Also, they have done addtional wonderful things in the past like sending out a fraudulent prospectus..and they paid for it in the late 90's .
While the purpose of the forum is eduction on "fish keeping" the education can also be in other areas as well so hobbyists can make informed purchases.
Many repetitive threads on this forum.....and Pertco is simply a subject that gets repeated often.
Much like the minimum tank size for tangs plus numerous other threads often repeated...this is simply another.
***** is an easy target because they are big and in many communitites. There are many lfs that are localy owned that are also poorly run with regards to providing an appropriate sytem or housing for the animals they sell.
I realize folks do things out of good intentions...but sometimes it has the opposite impact.
TO the original poster...your system is inadequate as it is not mature enough to provide the food souce for this animal....so why did you buy it agian? Please plan on searching the net for providers of live pods as you may need to do this for several months. Try seeding your refugium as the population will be separate from the main system and slowly release pods on a daily basis. to the main display...but time is not on your side.
Best of luck
