No one is trying to ridicule you. If you've been on this board for awhile you will see that these ***** threads get started all the time.

My comment was not from me being humiliated or ridiculed...If you will scroll thru this thread you will see that that was my first post. Also, I do not shop at the P word.

This is what I think of the ***** threads

LFS appreciate their inventory about a micron above that of a national chain--purely for economical reasons 'cause it hurts them more to lose a purple tang than it does a LFS (however, keep in mind a lot of LFS co-sign their inventory). If everyone on all the major SW boards didn't buy even their suppliments there (and Kent is crap anyway) they wouldn't even notice a difference in their balance sheets.
I SUPPORT *****/PetSmart......... because they have the dry food my four dogs are on at a price that my grocery store cannot match, and an item my LFS does not stock. I go in about once every three weeks, buy my food--casually look at the horrible conditions of the tanks--and leave. Buy all your stuff online and be done with it.
IMHO

Wow!
The last time I checked this posting it was about someone buying a fish and trying to save it from certain doom.
We were originally discussing this to be a noble act, although one that could have the opposite desired effect. Namely the store purchasing more.
Now you can argue that the person has provided little or no impact to the hobby or industry as a whole OR you can follow the logical conclusion that by saving one fish he has done the right thing.
If you saw one homeless person on the street and brought him a blanket and bowl of soup to stay warm and ease his hunger have you solved homelessness? No. Does that deminish the act of kindness? No.
Does this hold the arguement that since you only saved one person, one night of misery and not eradicated the world hunger that it is better to do nothing? I mean after all, if one person is fed there will be millions more who are to take his place. So why bother? Right?
IMO, this is what has happened here. You have by act of compassion decided to save one fish. A noble act in my mind and one that is deserving of praise. Did you save all the fish from the evil LFS? No. But it is a start and if they chose to buy another to take its place that is unfortunate. I bet there is a fish in everyones aquarium that is greatful for a good home whether they know it or not. And show their gratitude by living long healthy lives that amaze and astound us with the sheer nature of their beauty.
Just my opinion.

I am sorry to begin or participate in an arguement, I was only stating my opinion and giving credit to the one who saved a fish with the goodness of their heart. To clarify my shopping experience at that store, I go in for pet food as for the fact that it is my only option for a supplier for this specific product. And yes I browse around and usually dislike the conditions I see. I do not get my pets from this store because I worry about health issues of most their animals, but yes my heart breaks and I have to talk myself out of many pet purchases. I have also seen private pet shops with extraordinary terrible conditions, but you do not know this until you step in their door. I feel that most people in this thread are only trying to warn people of some risks- not bash the company, and that they are only stating their opinion..... is that wrong? If we all let our heart make our decisions, like the original poster of this thread, we would be a truly caring and loving person and I think that is great. I still think you did the right thing. I can totally agree with what Moby said. Good luck, I hope things are going good, you have a very caring heart.

Great job on saving the Mandrin :cheer: When you go to your lfs see if they can sell you some pod or try to get him on some frozen foods. Don't worry about the bad things people on here say you did a good deed.I thank you for what you have done. My last good deed has cost me over 500.00

Opinions are of course fine!!

The problem is this:
1) ***** threads come up on average at least once a week if not more. They are extremely aggravating as a whole. They are generally threads about a company as an "entitiy" and rarely do they focus on anything proactive, positive, etc even in terms of what to do about them. They are generally ***** venting or "bashing" threads that amount, IMO, to nothing nor do they really contibute anything to the general productivity of this board. Several become emotionally heated, and take a lot of time to moderate due to language, etc.
2) Apart from whether you agree or not with corporate policy, people do still buy there, and people actually do have access to a good store here and there. The blanket bashing again does little.
3) Commonly, as noted, people talk about how horrible *****'s are...yet they are in the store buying things. I grow weary of this pattern. If you don't like the store, then do not support it by even walking through the door, let alone buying even dry goods
. But if you purchase things from this store, then you are supporting this store and their practices.
4) This person asked about a mandarin. While there were a few statements about what to do, invariably, the mere mention of the word "*****" takes over control of the rest of the thread. I think the next time a see a thread where someone mentions buying stock from *****, I will do them the favor of deleting the name of the store, so they can get advice on what they actually want

5) I think you will find that just about any thread that focuses almost entirely on simply bashing a store will be closed or deleted in time because again they are only of limited use on the board.

I do agree that you are right about the mere name of the pet store completely begins extremely heated discussion and takes away from the original question in the thread which is more important. I admit that I fell right into store opinions and remarks and now I look back and feel ashamed. I wish I would have just said my congrats and been done with it. Personally I really don't know anything about this particular fish, so I am not one to give advice, I wish I was.I hope the fish is doing well. I did see some advice in this thread that may be very useful. I guess if it were me, I would do a lot of research and not stop untill I feel my questions were answered.
