I Hate Camel Back Shrimp!!

i been tryin to catch mine for over a week now. I tried the soda bottle trap, net feeding, and now i went and got that mantis trap to try and catch him but still no luck. Im fed up im really so close to tearing my whole tank apart to get this guy out of there. No matter what coral i try to put in there he always eats them

has anyone every caught a camelback before. What method and what kind of bait did you use to catch them.

I recently got rid of my damsels. Removed everything from the tank 70 pounds of LR it was a huge ordeal for a little devil fish!

so weird. my camelback never touches ANYTHING! try luring him into a plastic cup with some food- when he climbs in there, cover it with a net and take the whole thing out of the tank. that's how i did it when i moved. hope u catch him!

Camel back is very smart cautious shrimp.
Have you tried pasta strainer? (please wash it in the water from the tank and very properly to get rid of various washing liquid chemicals!)
Put it on the sand and some food underneath (piece of squid, cockles, fish etc). Might be a long wait, and some other fishes and critters will get there..but you just might have a success!

yea mine seems to be very smart. i resorted to buying one of those traps he just wont go in it. Also i tried something like the plastic cup he just wont go far enough in for me to get him he must know im after him. i came close one time but never again since. im just sick of it. Im thinkin about just putting a coral banded in there to take care of him then this way at least i will have a reef safe shrimp in there

I have tried my trapping skills many times and I have learned that in the end it takes much less time to just tear down and get it out right away. the only method that almost worked for me was to take some thread, a safety pin (or hook, etc), and a chunk of food and go "fishing." Lure him out to a more open area where you can easily move your net around. It also helped to set the net in the tank for awhile ahead of time so they get used to it and come back out while the net is in a good spot to act quickly. GOOD LUCK!!

I had a camelback that I was told was a peppermint and it ate my feather dusters. I ended up getting it out by taking everything out of my tank. But then I only have a 12 gallon tank and I had only had my tank set up for about a month when this happened.

thats what happened to me actually i was told it was a peppermint and this was before i really knew much about saltwater and it ended up being a camelback. I just got a coral banded to see if he will take care of him for me then after catch the coral banded since they seem to be alot easier to get

I finallly caught my camelback after 3 weeks or trying. I finally gave in and just ripped apart my rock work and i caught the shrimp in about 2 mins. Now i can go ahead and get the shrimp i really want like the cleaner and fire.

Ever collected tropicals while diving? Not likely, huh? You might make a type of slurp gun outa a kitchen tool. i think it's called a grease sucker, maybe. You'd have to cut the end off to make it bigger. They are handy around a tank for me, anyway. Also the nets that are used have clear vinyl in the end so you can run'em outa a hole into it and they don't see the net. Might help to figure out somethin....

Ohhhhh...just wanted to add that I too HATE camel back shrimp. OK...so they are just doing what they're made to do , and shame on us for putting them in the reef tank without doing proper research.
BUT...we have THREE of these guys with 130lb of liverock & I can't get them out no matter what I try. I wish they would just DIE already!
We've lost about $400 worth of coral livestock to these guys...3 xenia colonies, 2 HUGE polyp colonies, many mushrooms, a large spaghetti leather..just to name a few. I wish they would just die, die, die so I can continue to purchase more corals.

Mine was quite easy to catch. One morning while going to work I turned on the living room lights and he had jumped out of the tank in the middle of the night and was lying on the carpet. Pretty easy after that!

It appears you can add another shrimp that will eat your camelback. NICE. Try catching a mantis that you have never seen. I am ready to take all 280lbs of LR rock out to rid my tank of him.
