I HATE heaters

I think heaters are the most dangerous item in most fishtank. Today I put a heater in my tank. Plugged the dang thing in, and POP. It friggen exploded. Fortunately I was smart enough to flip a switch before I stuck my hand it the water and got hit by 200 watts. But dang, I did everything right (or so I thought) and still. POP....

The Boss and I had to buy a new washer & dryer the other day.My question to the salesman was how long were they good for.Before I had to replace them. His answer for most appliances now days last between 8 to 12 years . Sounds like yours didn't make 1 second.

It was a couple of years old. I pull em out during the summer, since they aren't needed. Cheap one is right, visotherm

X2 for titanium heaters. I had a glass one explode on me and it was the worse thing I have ever smelled.
Try to avoid the Pro-heat. The thermastat on mine is way off, and I hear they have a bad rep. Finnex is supposed to be good.

Ha I agree w/ you! In the fish equipment world EVERYTHING should be waterproof. When I spend the $ for the nice heater, somehow, water gets spilled on the controller and burns it out! On the other hand I havent had a titanium element die, so if your careful you should have a lot of luck w/ a titanium one.

The Ehiem Jager heaters are very good also, they are glass but very tough. I have dropped mine a couple times into an empty tank and it survived without a scratch. Also they are probably one of the most reliable heaters out there.
