The price of oil has dropped from $147 a barrel to $89 a barrel the only silver lining in our economic crisis. SO in turn the price of gas at the pump has dropped dramatically in these 4 months because of less demand and less driving. SO in turn that leaves MORE MONEY in your pocket. An average of almost $800 annually. This leaves more money in your pocket for you to spend on our retailers or restauranteurs, etc etc, to help them out and keep the economy running. So what does OPEC do? Call an emergency meeting to stem the DROP of the price of a barrel of oil and is strongly considering drastically cutting back on the production of oil so the price does not come down any further. Real S L E A Z Y if you ask me....

Yeah, it sucks. Some long term senators should have been supporting alternative energy before it became "convenient" for their political career. There are several to blame, no picking one certain one out in particular....

Its a good thing some of those long term senators realized there wasn't a strong enough demand for alternative energy with oil below 60 or 70 dollars a barrel to make it an economic reality to dump huge amounts of money into it or mandate it's use or we would be a few trillion further in debt than we are now.

The wonderful thing about the whole mess right now is with the decline few of those OPEC countries can afford to cut production,

Unfournately we are very vulnerable right now... they are in the position to advance their nations and to lessen the power of the United States by hiting us where it hurts. In the global scope of things they are doing what the right thing for their intrests... now it may be short term if we can turn ourselves around and be energy independent... what we need to do is to be inventors and to change the way energy is used by developing alternatives and becoming indepedent of foreign oil and shipping this new technology throughout the world.

I'll add you are probably correct... but we loose on foreign policy and national security by not developing alternatives or domestic sources of energy... thats the cost we've paid

DRILL HERE! DRILL NOW!
Open the whole USA up to responsible drilling. Then we give the middle east the middle finger. We give Russia OUR oil at OUR price.

What alternatives. Burn food? Etoh is less efficient than gas, and we have yet to find an efficient way to store H2Wind, solar, all inefficient. You want electric, yet you say the battery plants and lead smelters our environmentaly unfriendly. Lithium too is toxic.
How about some more nuclear. What about fusion. The fusion reactor would end all our needs we could MAKE synthetic oil with the energy output.
So for the next 10-50 years its oil and gas. Until then finance the research to make a fusion reator and better batteries, build fission plants. Billy boy was too busy playing humidor with Monica to notice he was S
Wing us as bad as her with limiting our access to OUR resources.
Fusion would be totally green it's only "smoke would be He2 which is light enough to escape the atmosphere.
