I hate the BSOD

Ugg so 3 of my vista computers have periodic random BSOD. And it is driving me nuts trying to figure it out. They seem to coinside at the same time too... It looks like the Windows Ghost is rearing its ugly head.

I find it odd that 3 computers all have BSOD at the same time. There is a clever malware that appears to be the BSOD but is just a screensaver of it instead.
Other than that have you installed any patches or programs recently?

well unless it does a memory dump, and restarts the computer... They are new computers less than 3 months old. So everything has just been installed.

Actually that is exactly the the screen saver appears to do.
So assuming that it isn't malware what does the BSOD say? It should reference a file.

What is the error message associated with the BSOD? There should be a number on the BSOD, that should lead you to the problem. Wouldn't hurt to see the dump file also to see what if any information it is giving.

I have the error code at work, I don't remember it. But when I googled it, it was for bad memory, or a driver error.
I ran a memory check and that checked out. So I wiped and reinstalled winblows clean. And re-installed the drivers. We'll see how that goes.
It isn't malware unless it is completely stealth, I've run AVG, Norton, Trend micro and mcafee. (I was bored at work)
and yes macs suck giant donkey balls.

I build gaming pc's for years. Thats what they are good for. Gaming, crashing, and sucking. My mac is not perfect, but it never completely a#$s up. I would say my mac is 70% more efficient than any pc garbage.

Vista has only blue screened once on me since dumping the GARBAGE that came loaded on the machine and turning off or throwing out lots of useless crap associated with vista. It also sped up the machine big time. There are several sites that explain what to nuke. I'll see if I can dig up the links I posted for cranberry a few months ago.
I found the thread...

Rather than try to explain it here I'll post a couple links that will explain and walk you through the process.
The first is just telling you what you already know. Vista is slow and needs to be modified from it's over the counter configuration.

and
This one explains what services to adjust for performance.

this one also shows what to turn off and how.

These tweaks will dramatically speed up your PC, especially boot time. I went from 1 minute start up to under 20 seconds.
ps...increasing your RAM will also make a huge difference with Vista.

If I wanted to spend 3 times as much for a hyped up computer whose company cares more the the look than the guts. Then I'd go with a mac. But then again...

Just because it passes memory test doesn't mean it isn't bad. IMO I would run memtest (google it if you don't have it) at startup for a lengthy period of time. If it doesn't find anything and you have more than one stick of RAM then test them individually - trying to replicate the problem.
Memory errors can also be within the video card and cache of the ram (as those are memory address's too). Memtest85 should test those as well.

The likely hood that I get 3 different computers from 3 different dell builders with the same problem due to ram is pretty small.

The difference between a PC and mac is where the genius lies. PC and bill gates did a good job at seizing the day. And coming up with innovative and ACCESSIBLE software. Mac's genius is the marketing and product differentiation. The only reason Mac is still in business today is the iPod. To which I salute them that was a business hail mary and they hit it. But soon the "fad" will fade and or some other company will come out with a better slicker marketed gizmo and the "hip" public will buy that and apple will die...

Agreed, Mac is for a niche market and they do a great job at it. Their customer service is 10x better than microsofts, and the only reason Mac is afloat is because of their new innovations.
Back to the BSOD, you didn't give me the error code so i don't know if it has to do with memory or not. I was just going off of what you said about it being a memory issue. Your right, 3 different computers w/ BSOD and the same error code and that being a RAM issue is rare. But are they identical systems? Could be an incompatable driver issue w/ the same hardware driver on all three systems - which would be more likely of an issue than RAM. Again just going off of what you've said earlier.

yeah that is what I think too. I re-installed vista, (these machines has both vista and xp) so i'm hoping something went wrong with 2 op systems. And installing drivers. So we'll see what happens.
