there are some people in the classified section here selling rock for $3 a lb, and that just blows my mind.

OK I'm just a begginer here so bear with me. You have over 500 watts of lighting. If you are in fact running the lights you might want to cut back if not off, unless lighting does not contribute to hair algae. I know it contributes to other algae. LMAO

Well, i went to my LPS and purchased the following:
1) phospahte test kit
2) Ro/DI unit
3) 40 Lbs Live rock ( hahahahahaha ) now that makes 200 lbs of rock in a 75 gallon tank
I will test water tomorrow after everything calms back down in the tank. I will also post pics of the new additions..
Well off to do some plumming..Thanks for everybodys help, if it all clears up ill send everybody a beer..LOL

wow, tha'ts a lot of rock in your tank LOL its going to look SWEET! :jumping: :cheer:

you'll probably have a mini cycle from the rock, but probably nothing to speak of. Do you happen to have any money lying around that you'd like to buy me a new light set with? :)

i'll give you my shipping address. just give whoever you buy the lights from that address and you wont even know you didn't get them :)
seriously though, i hope you truly enjoy this hobby. once you start stocking with fish and corals you'll get a ton of joy from it.
any clue what you're planning on doing?

btw, i'd suggest getting your salt up to 1.026--its a little more comfey for inverts and it won't affect fish.

well i was kinda going to do both, even though at this point it looks as if i was going to do a rock only LOL. But i will do both( the hardest one to do ) Corals, clams, some tangs, possibly a clown or 2 ( little girl likes clowns ). I really want this to be a peice of the sea.. I love the ocean and most of the inhabitants ( pistol shrimp ( had those before ) i hate) lots of snails and a few other crustations. I do know for sure though that coral is definately my main priority.. I will be putting together a refugium in the next month or so to help to counteract the biological filteration. you see i have done a little homework.. You have to in order to even start on this.. People that dont read up will not be successful, like i said earlier, i had one before and it was a fish only and it really wasnt all that enjoyable. So i figured on this one i would completely do things a little different.

Wouldnt that make thing a little acidic. I have always been told to keep it at max 1.024. At the moment i try to keep it around 1.22 to 1.023

i'd start out as fowlr (fish only w live rock). get used to the water changes, and daily maintenance. let a few months go by :)
then start out with some softy corals, get used to the nightmare that is the calcium/alk/pH/magnesium balancing act.
with metal halides you could do just about anything coral wise. just keep in mind what you want to do later when you're looking at fish though. some of the more awesome fish will eat your corals and clean up crew.

not sure if its acidic, but you want your ph around 8.2-8.4 and most likely that will happen naturally. i don't think the salt has anything to do with it. it does though give a nice little rash if your skin's not used to it :)
