:help: Ok i already posted something that had the same question but nobody answered

Ok how big of a tank do Giant Clams need to be in when they are full grown?
Would a 72 gallon work for when they are full grown, or will i need to transfer it?
If i do need to transfer it how long can i keep it in my 72 for it to be healthy and happy?
Thanks in advance!

they dont really need a big tank, just stable water parameters and extremely strong lighting, they stay basically where you put them

but there is one that gets about 2 feet long once fully grown.

I was talking to a guy at a lfs that said one of his friends pulled a clam shell off of a reef (already dead of course). But he put some legs on it and is using one of the sides as a bathtub :scared: So it might out grow a 75, but probably not in your lifetime.

gigas will get to around 3ft and grow fast
deresas about 18-24"
squamosas around 14-18"
maximas around 6"
croceas around 6"
each have different lighting needs

i would not worry as much about the size of the tank, as the lights you have on it. most clams have fairly high lighting needs. especially ones with exotic color.

I have seen a clam in an aquarium that was bigger than a basketball, width of the tank was the main issue

id say any clam needs metal halide for it to thrive, but im sure there will be a few people who will jump in now and argue that a friend of a friend kept one under pc lighting for years. and i wouldnt worry about the clam outgrowing your tank. also, how deep is your tank, thatll help figure out how much lighting you need.
