...about yet another truely enjoyable aspect of this hobby we all participate in. Some of you know that along with my 55 reef I also keep(or should say kept) a 58 Oceanic Fish Only system. I've never featured it much but I've always enjoyed the fish only nearly as much as the reef. It was a much simpler system...50-60 lbs of LR...DSB...CPR BacPac 2r skimmer...standard NO lighting...my red coris wrasse...niger trigger and a pair of perculas. Just a basic fish only.
I have a nephew that was always utterly fascinated by my aquariums and he is also a painter...a very good one. We cut a deal where he'd do some painting here at my home in exchange for the fish only system...complete. The deal was he'd do the labor...I'd provide the materials...and he'd get the aquarium when he was able to care for it. This past weekend we made the move. Below is a pic of my nephew Ryan in front of the 58 Oceanic at his home. It took about 4 hours from start to finish and so far everything has made the move with no problems.
Point of this story...well I just have a great sense of satisfaction from knowing that my interest in this hobby has spread to another member of my family...and another hobbyist is now amoung us!!! I thought I'd regret my deal...but after seeing the look of satisfaction on his face after the aquarium was in his home I was pleased with my decission to let it go.
Along the way I found another reason to futher enjoy my hobby...a simple pleasure of passing along what I enjoy to somebody else.
By the way...he plans to eventually develope a reef to compete with mine...lots of friggin' luck bud...he is about to become a father and his money is too tight to catch up to NMReef any time soon!!!LMAO
