If he has no income he will be approved for state medical care which is free and they should pay all of his bills. He honestly should get as much as he can out of it now because once he starts working he will probably make too much and it will get denied. I work for the State of Arizona doing this. Tell him to apply as soon as possible so they can give him treatment. As long as he applies for the medical in the same month, those bills in that month will all be paid.

Our County Hospital cannot deny or refuse medical service to anyone. If a person can't afford the procedure, they charge them based on their income. They make arrangements for them to pay back what they can.

Sad, sad story.
First, has he considered selling the house? That alone could seriously help him out.
Second, he needs to get health insurance. Hopefully this will convince him of that. At 19, he could get a health policy for under $100 a month.
Universal Health Care is not the answer. Parents raising their children to understand what is important is the answer.

Not a likely candidate for affordable health ins with a serious pre-existing condition, let alone a policy that will pick up his condition right away. The truth is, he should have just taken the emergency treatment. Most hospitals have assistance for people in dire straights such as this kid. No public hospital can refuse necessary treatment.

Oh, don't get me wrong. He'll have to get treated before he could get a policy. I'm talking about later...

He refused the CT scan,
He sounds like he may be borderline suicidal (or lost interest in fighting for life) from your posts. Does he have someone to watch him for possible destructive behavior? Considering what he's been through, and the depression he is likely dealing with, it would be a good idea to make frequent "how are you feeling" phone calls to check up on him. How is his sister doing? Are there any grandparents? It's heartwrenching to watch your friends go through this.
Glad to hear that his Rabbi is involved.
