I have to vent....

I have just about had it up to here with these ads on the site. I will be right in the middle of typing a post...I want to scroll down. If I don't remember to go to the bottom and up to the scroll bar...That's when the site fogs over and I can't get out of the video ad, there is no X or close to escape. So I when I finally just go to the arrow to go back to where I was, my entire post is erased and I'm back to square one. Half the time I just close the site, and go do something else not so frustrating. Next step is to just type on Microsoft word and copy paste my post.
I practically live on my computer and post often, now it's just maybe once a day or maybe twice that I post. It isn't that I haven't read it or wanted to post, it's these aggravating ads.
So...anyone else want to complain? I can't be the only one who hates this constant commercial crap. LOL...I even make a mental note to NOT purchase that brand, just to get even. I have the Google chrome, it seems they have found a way around it. I watch all of my programs on DVR just so I can fast forward through the commercials. I very seldom watch live TV. I pay for my wireless Internet, I pay for my channels on TV. It isn't like the ads are the only way they can stay on the air.
What has Crest toothpaste have to do with SW fish? Then to really burn my buns...we are not allowed to post a link to other sites, and yet SW fish lets other fish sites bombard us with commercials.

The ads pay for the hosting of the site and forum. If you want to post links, offer to pay SWF an advertising fee. That is what these ad companies do. Or you could just get a pop up ad blocker...that is what I did. I have no problem with ads. Advertising pays for us to have the PRIVILEGE of reading and posting here. Advertising allows those channels you like to DVR to make a profit and stay in business.......
I love when people that have never ran business make comments like " I pay for my wireless Internet, I pay for my channels on TV. It isn't like the ads are the only way they can stay on the air.". Because the only reason to run a TV station is to "Just stay on the air". It has nothing to do with actually making money and paying employees a living wage..........

I 100% admit I don't know a thing about business. I'm just one of a billion idiots who don't care for their methods of advertising. I actually didn't get a DVR to watch certain shows...I got it to fast forward the commercials. I watch my favorite shows an hour late just so I don't have to watch them. I can't be the only one.
I don't mind the ads that just sit there for me to look at...I am complaining about the inescapable video ad that has no way to get out of
...then I lose the stuff I was typing. I'm long winded I guess, but the post responses I was working on had lots of information I wanted to share, once I lost it, I just went to someplace else on the computer to calm down from my aggravated mental attitude. I make a personal note on those video ads, I will not purchase those products, that way they get the opposite response...I USED to use Crest toothpaste, now you couldn't pay me to buy it. it may not be much, but they lost my business with their very irritating ad.
So while I was at it, I decided to also mention that SW fish puts ads up from competitors, which make no sense at all. I don't want to post links, but folks can get kicked off the site for doing so.
Google Chrome is an ad blocker
, and it no longer is working to do the job. I hate watching a favorite show and watch endless commercials about the show I'm already watching...so while I was venting I decided to complain about that too. What really gets me is that the video ad won't run unless you hover over it...then they place it right where I have to scroll...GGGRRRR. A tiny fraction off...and I am no longer on the site, but trapped in their ad. I have to scroll to get to the submit button...

I have never had the video ad run on me. It advertises what you look at the most. The ads I see are for guns and dog/cat related products...

lol yep. It never fails, I can be checking out flooring products on line one minute and then jump over to this site to see what's going on and get bombarded by adds for flooring products. I could probably use a new add block but they weren't so bad, before. Chrome did a decent job. But it seems like a lot of stuff is starting to get past chrome and are everyone is now nailin ya with these high graphic video adds.

I used (before today) Crest toothpaste, but I wasn't looking at the product......why have such an ad for that? If what you posted has merit, I should be seeing a bunch of nail polish commercials. Wait...I look to my right...and there are no ads???? YAY!!!! How did I do that?

dunno...right now I see adds for the dog whisperers line of pet food. But at other times I see adds for other stuff that is related to what I had been searching earlier. These software companies and government pretty much track everything you do online. Companies sell that info to advertisers. So sometimes it seems random while at other times it's like big brother has been watching ya. Then with the current adds I see them quite often but they change every now and then. Maybe I just need to update my browser. Maybe I need to try firefox again.

Yep, the pop up in your face ads started recently, and I see them on many sites, not just SWF. Fortunately for me, I'm left handed so cursor tends to rest on the left side. Also, the ads seem more random now, not having anything to do with products you've been researching online. If you hit an ad by mistake it usually has audio for a couple of seconds before the popup. That is your warning to scroll away.
Do you have a scrolling mouse? If so, you shouldn't need to scroll manually at the right of the screen. I rarely use the screen scroll.

I have bad hearing, sometimes I don't catch the little music that plays, but when I posted my anger...I had missed it. I had just posted a list of equipment, and I was so mad when it got erased. There was just no escape...I was held hostage. I have a scrolling mouse...I will have to start using it.

If you see it again check up in the top right corner of the screen and look for a gray X and click it. That's how I escape it. If my cursor scrolls over the add at the top right of the page for too long that generally is when I get the pop up in your face add. It appears that even the advertisers are tyrannical these days. :)

As a rule the ads do have an X to escape, and I don't mind that...but the Crest one didn't that I could see. I'm not going to click on it to double check.

Well, i dont know about the escape button, but it is pretty annoying.
I made this same thread a few weeks ago.
I tell yah, if i wasnt a regular on the forums i would probably find somewhere else that wasnt quite as bad.
If swf the business is doing so bad that they are wrecking their forums, maybe somethjng needs to change?

I can't imagine going to another site. I missed your post...I knew i couldn't be the only one. For a whole day the ads disappeared...but it's back. Beth mentioned the scroll mouse. I forgot I even had that kind of gizmo since I never used the feature. It works great, so now I don't have to go near the dreaded right side of the page.

They've pretty much always have bolstered the idea that they are a store first and foremost since I've been around here. Going by that logic the adds would pretty much seem to be a given when coming to this forum. Sad thing is that in-your-face type advertising actually works on some folks and help to bring in revenue. Heck that's why you see folks making all these crazy videos these days and posting them on you tube. If you can hit a million views then someone will pay you to stick an ad at the front of your video.

Exactly. Remember the days when you visited YouTube without any ads on the vid you want to watch?
If there is a way to make a buck, then its going to be done.
SWF probably gets money for how many hits they get to the SWF page that has the ad. Not sure how it works.

Download Mozilla firefox and install the pop up blocker. It's way cooler than internet explorer. The only ads I see here are the top banner ad and the ads off to the side on the first 4 or 5 posts on a page.

What's cool about Firefox?
I already have Firefox, but went back to IE as my default. LOL...one cool feature, it will underline any misspelled words. I like IE better. I don't like the e-mail on Firefox, loading pictures is a pain. With IE I can just click on the attachment, and my pictures come up to select what I want to send. For some reason I can't get attachments to work with Firefox....I have to go find the line of address, and type that in.
