Right now the tenticle things are all like really tightly shriveled up i guess, Is this normal? I put it in my tank at like 7:00PM and now it is almost 7:00AM(I turned the lights off at like 10:30)
Any other xenia owners please tell me what you do for care and feeding Thanks!

don't worry about feeding them. They just need strong light and stable water chemistry. Mine grow so much I throw them away ever water change. If I didn't my 125 would be over grown in a matter of months.

From my experience with Xenia they are a pretty sturdy coral. Yours will most likely be back out and pulsing away by the end of the day. You wont need to feed them and placement does not seem to matter to them one way or another as long as they get sufficient light. The pulsing will be more noticeable in low to moderate flow areas however.
They are also pretty much a self fragging coral which means they will spread over to anything with in reach even the glass and grow rapidly. I have seen tanks where the back wall was pretty much a live Xenia backdrop. I suspect the best way to accomplish this without the use of glues is to cut a length of eggcrate and lean it up against the rock your Xenia is on. It will most likely quickly spread to the eggcrate which then can be moved so that it is leaning against the back glass of the aquarium and spread to it.
If they can be coaxed into doing this I would suspect your back wall would be half covered with Xenia within a years time.
Good luck with your new coral.

In the beginning with mine I had die backs to due to low alk. After starting to add baking soda to keep my alk up they started doing much better, if they are rotting youmay want to suck them out before they mess up your water.

Well first of all some people get lucky with it adapting to your tank right away. Most xenia take awhile to accumlate any little change from where it came from originally will cause it to shrink and die too. It can recover but it will take awhile too at times so if it dies just cut off the top and leave the base so it can regrow into a new piece.

it was doing really good like 4-5 days after iI got it and 4-5 days later it looks like it is going to die

Yeh thats how mine were, clinging to the last thread of life for about 4 or 5 months, then I can't get rid of it fast enough. I must have siphoned out enough to fill a cereal bowl tonight just so I can see through the glass.

goulding is most likely on the right track here. IME Xenia love kalkwasser drips or more accurately the normal result of a kalk drip being higher PH 8.4 and a slightly higher than normal alk level.
IMO higher reef temps are also hard on Xenia. Try to keep it 80 or under.

Hi all - not trying to hijack. My problem is consistant w/ this thread.
I have 2 xenia's - they are off the same piece. I bought them the weekend of MACNA. I went out of town this weekend (
starting to think I can't do this) and I got home last night. One of the xenias is shriveled up tight and looks greyish in color.
The other one which is right next to this one, seems fine. What could be the problem.
Ammonia 0
Trates 10
trites 0
Calcium 380
PH 8.3
dKH 11.2
I did add some purple up on Friday (just 5ml to try to raise my calcium a bit but it only went from 370 - 380). Everything else in the tank looks great.
Any suggestions?

I have a xenia that was damaged pretty bad in shipping. All that was left was what was attached to the rocks. Whithin about a week new heads started popping out and stocks started growing.
