Well, first off I learned that rich people don't eat chips. Lemme 'splain.
This past weekend, I went to Orlando and stayed in the biggest Marriott in the world! It was beautiful. But of all the floors and all the "wings" there was not one single vending machine in the entire place!!
When I asked where to get a bag of chips, they suggested room service.

So, I'm thinking rich people are rich cause they are careful with their money! Not here...
valet parking-$18 a day! (plus tip)
Park your own car, (a mile away, but get shuttled to the hotel) $10 a day! Plus tip to the shuttle guy.
Internet service $15 a day!
The phone!! Local calls-$2.50
1-800 calling card calls-$2.50
no fridge, no microwave, no dresser for our clothes, coffee pot was hidden in the closet.
The place was beautiful, but goodness they charged for everything!!
A good holiday in express has free net, free parking, free breakfast, free coffee round the clock, free local and 1-800 calls.
Now, this was on the companies tab, but if it weren't I don't think I could justify spending money for all that rediculous stuff.
But the hotel WAS nice!

If you go to Disney, stay in one of their resorts. They have three levels that usually run from $99 up to $350 a night. You park close to your room and you never have to touch your car the whole time you are there. You use their transportation and you get extra park hours just for their resort guests. They have cokes, chips, beer, food courts and just about anything else you could want. Their properties are very safe so your kids can play and enjoy the pools and grounds.

That is true.... you CANNOT beat disney resorts under any circumstace, lol. If you do need a hotel to go to Disney then its best to stay at one of their resorts. If you are strapped for cash then you can stay at one of their Allstar resorts which are pretty cheap.

That's why we don't have a state tax. Tourist taxes pay for it all.

When I go to the park I alway stay on the resort property.I probly only use my truck 2 or 3 times the whole time and that for dinner out of the park. The little bit more for clean rooms and better acomidations is worth it.Tourist get hammered though.

Room Service for chips?

I would suggest a gas station...
The most insane thing is $2.50 for a 800 call.
Was that $10 shuttle for a family, two people, or individual?

I Havent done the resort thing yet but im destined too. My daughters first time at disney.. it will be a must to go all out. Not looking forward to that as far as the $$ goes but in all other aspects it should be a blast.
Last 2 times I went we stayed with relatives in Tampa, only an hour drive to Orlando, it was great.. spent very little and still got to enjoy Disney.
Not that Disney isnt expensive but how bout the islands... We went to Turks and Caicos islands a few years ago... OMG.. eating at a resturant and nothing special either. 7 people, bill was like $800.00 one meal....Lunch at a road side deli, sandwiches nothing else....$80.00 for 3 people, thats insane.

In Fla they have a no tax week for school supplies and clothes. Disney did not participate.
PerfectDark,
Those are expensive islands. I travel to fish and prefer the cheaper islands/countries like: Bimini, Venezuela, Mexico (Cabo), Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Panama. The fishing charters are expensive but cost of everything else is very cheap. Nice room for less than $100/night. In Guatemala we found a place for $20/night/person with a pool and 4 bathrooms with showers.

IT has to do with the way the laws are written. how can disney not participate with not charging taxes it doesn't make sense.
Guatamala is very beautiful.

I can't remember the details but I believe their excuse was that it would cost them to change their computers/registers over and it would be to time consuming. Buncha crap.

So, basically they just pocketed all that extra money that they were collecting as "tax" that week. Buncha crooks!

I know that they make the laws around disney. My friend was looking for rollin papers they told him he would have to drive out of orlando.I told him I knew this little store a Pakistan guy owned by universal of he had them but no where else did.The moral of the story is they can regulate anything if they can tell local store what they can and can't sell.

Well to go to the gas station, we had to tip the valet guy for retrieving our car, then tip again for reparking. There was nothing in walking distance.
The 10 bucks was just to park the car! The shuttle was "free" plus tip of course.
It was all crazy. There's gotta be hotels close by that are just normal everyday hotels. Once you were in the room of the big fancy hotel, it didn't look any different than any other!
Tiny bathroom, 2 beds, pull out couch, tv alarm clock, that's it. No marble tile, no crown moulding or dining room sets or anything, just a plain ol room.
I may go back to orlando or tampa this weekend, I'll look for a more reasonable hotel and let yall know if one exists!

I just remembered. If you go down around the OBT (Orange Blossom Trail), you can find very reasonable rooms. But they also rent by the hour. You may want to bring your own sheets though and a handgun would come in handy going back and forth to your car.

You can find plenty of reasonable hotels in Orlando if you look. Go out on Expedia and look around.

I can't say I follow under "rich" but very well off sounds about right. You guys need to remember that you are vacation and that if you want be pampered, it comes with a price. I used to stay on the WDW resorts in lake buena vista until I bought a timeshare and when we go we stay there. I for one am not tight with my money when we go on vacation. If we want it or want to do it, we buy it or do it. I dont go somewhere out of my state to be frugal or complain about how much something costs. Every state has some type of cash cow. Disney is yes a bit on the higher end for theme parks when it comes to ticket price per park per day, but as many times as we have been there, I can't say I was ripped off or that they were crooks. If you are going to pay for a place like that for Disney, then stay on-site. Better service, and the perks can't be beat. You're still going to pay big for a deluxe resort, but it is worth it.
