I love shrooms

.....just now it's the saltwater shrooms instead of the ones that give me laughing fits when ingested JK time marches on................. Anyway, I have two 48" bulbs - one 40 watt actinic and one 40 watt 20,000K bulb - both Coralife. Please forgive me, I'm still trying to learn about lighting.....NO, VHO, MH......it's a little confusing at first. Can I keep hairy and blue shrooms with this? I currently have 2 spotted shrooms that are thriving, but I'm guessing I need more wattage to move on!

until you get more light the blue wont be blue after a few days they will turn realy dark and freaky looking.I got some and a piece fell behind the rocks and its coming out and growing but its a brownish maron color instead of blue.
the hairy's do better under a little more light but I have kept them under NO lights before they didnt grow as fast but didnt seem to really bother them.
what size tank is this?

Thanks MichaelTX - How much additional lighting should I add? Could I get away with two double ballasts without a chiller ?(again, I'm still trying to completely understand lighting:) ) Also, in an effort to propogate my spotted mushrooms, I aimed a powerhead at one in hopes that it will move. How long should leave this added current?

they are normal lights right is so I would check into VHO or pc's
depending on the size of the tank for around a 50 gallon or so I like the PC's good coverage and to outrageous on price.
what size tank do you have? and what kind of price are you willing to spend I can send you a website for some cheaper good PC lights.
sometimes the PH trick works and sometimes it doesnt a friend of mine pulls them up and razor blades underneath them and put the cut shroom n another location and the remains of the other grow a new shroom. I havent done this myself though.

I have a 55. I'm not overly concerned about the price for lighting, hovever, I wasn't intending on getting into chillers. As for my shroom, I've had the PH aimed on it overnight and into today and it hasn't budged - maybe it's as stubborn as I am...patience is a virtue of mine:D

I get my shrooms to move and reproduce by giving them a poke with a scraper once in a while. This may seem cruel to you, but it works well for me. It tends to irritate the shroom and make it move, in the process it leaves a little of itself behind. This will become a new shroom in a week or so.
Boy, if you lived in my vacinity i'd give you a few of my brown harrys & green shrooms. For quite some time i have had them spreading out of control. I thought shrooms were very cool at first, but now (after few years) they are more like weeds to me.
