I"m Very Mad

Ok I finally got my 240 acrylic tank today. I have been looking forward to this for a long time now. I unrapped the whole thing and hauled it down to my basement. We set it on the floor because I still need to drill my overflow holes. And just for fun I thought I would measure it. It was suppost to be 95x23x25. Well It measures 95x23x26. Now I know your thinking that I got a extra inch of heigth to play with right? There is only one problem. When I made the opening in my wall for the tank I made it 95 1/2x25 1/4. So the tank won't fit in the opening. And I can't tear down the wall to make it bigger because the other side is in my new theater room. Here is a pic to help you understand. AAAARRRRRR I'm mad. I guess I'll have to fabricate something up.

If it was custom made, I would return it and tell them to make it the right size. If not custom, can you take it somewhere and have an inch cut off the top and put the plastic frame back on.

That's a bummer for sure slick :(
I'm in Ohio - you want me to go open a can of whoop-ass on them ?
Were you planning to have the tank rest in the wall opening just flush with the wall ?
Can you have the tank sit back somewhat - sort of recessed a little, and trim around it in the back ?
You'll figure it out I'm sure - Still a drag though.

Broomer, As tempting as the offer sounds I think it will be ok;)
Yeah the tank was going to sit flat with the front wall like a pic.
I'm gonna move it back like you said and case it in with trim. Only problem is I will have to make my stand deeper as well. I think I should just go sleep it off.:)

or at least raise a big enough stink that they refund you some money. Plus I would seriously look into re-doing hte wall - if you recess it - it will work - but it won't be exactly what you want - and then BOOM _ one day you will be ripping it all down to fix the wall .....
Good luck - I wish I had that kind of problem to worry about !!

exactly...like maybe refund you enough to pay someone to enlarge the cutout 1 inch (and save you the hassle)

1" is a lot to be off by when it comes to a custom tank purchase.
BTW- Jillian Ayers stopped by and said that there were all kinds of ghosts in your photo.

I understand your frustration!I finally was able to afford a house and was so excited about it.I measured the stairway to the bedroom upstairs and miscalculated by an inch. Now I can't get my bed upstairs without removing part of the floor.I now sleep downstairs. This was "my" mistake though. You on the otherhand have to deal with somebody elses.Hope you get things straightened out!

I agree with Overanalyzer, raise a stink, make them pay for your time to fix that wall(I've seen your handyworkyour time has got to be worth at least $50-75 an hour)

Thanks guys. I actually raised enough of a stinck that they knocked off $100. I will just have to recess the tank in the wall alittle bit.

I used to work in a acrylic shop many moons ago. If you know of a good cabinet shop in the area with a HUGE table saw you can trip off an inch. Then sand it with a fine grit and run an acetiline torch across it to shine it up. I would make several passes with a fine tooth blade maybe in Thirds of the thickness to prevent chipping.
This is an option so it will fit how you want it to.
