I may have done a bad thing....

I found my Tang with what appeared to be black ick. I bought some Formalin-3 to try a formalin bath. I was unable to catch him. The bottle said that I could add it to the tank and I did. I fear now that I may have done the wrong thing. Will this hurt my inverts? I have a few snail, hermits and few small featherdusters. I am also just starting to get some pods. I have just killed everything off?
Any suggestions on how to catch my tang without tearing everything out?
The bottle says that it has less than 3% formaldahyde. I put in 8 teaspoons in my 75gal tank.

It's hard to catch fish. I use 2 nets to catch those that can be netted and a canister for those that can't. Sometimes it takes me hours just to get one fish, but it's better then tearing down the display and then redoing it.
As for the formalin it tells on the bottle what inverts if any it's safe with. The hermits are pretty durable they can even go through mild copper treatments but I'd worry about the pods and dusters. Keep a close eye on them and if they look funny I'd do a water change to get the formalin out.

I just finished doing a 20% water change and started up an old canister filter with carbon in it. So far my inverts are doing fine. Guess only time will tell.

Well, it's just over 24 hours later and everything seems to be doing ok. My dusters are still out, all my crabs and snails seem to be okay as well.
Any ideas how long I should wait before continuing to add livestock?
I will probably do another partial water change this weekend and change the carbon just to be safe.

Well its highly recommended you setup a quarantine tank to prevent any new fish from brining unwanted diseases into your tank.
This would be a perfect time to set one up! You can jumpstart the cycle on it by using water from your main tank. You'll then want to keep your fish in the QT for 4 weeks before adding them to your main display. Over these 4 weeks, I'm sure your main tank will be back to perfect levels.
No one wants to QT new fish when they get them but it will save you money, and fish their lives, in the future. Thats almost guaranteed.
