I need a little water help

So I have these 5 gal containers of mixed saltwater, loosely capped sitting here for a month or so........
I was told they'd be ok, but I need to know exactly what things to test for to be sure everything is good for my tank.
I think someone said to make sure salinity and temperature matches?
What else do I need to check?
Thanks!

I was wanting to do water change today, so I need to either figure it out or go buy some new which I hate to just waste what I have.

You need to a least have one container you can add a heater and powerhead to. You water needs to be warmed up and airiated before you add it to your tank. I would check
amm., nitrites, nitrates, phos., and alk/ph for new tank, later you will worry about traces.

Ok, wait.....my ammonia has trace on the color card, no trates and it's time for my 2 week water change ayway, tank has been up and running since Sept. and I have 2 Percs, 3 Chromis, 1 Royal Gramma, 1 monster LMB and some corals (small zoos, a med. rock of mushrooms, a medium toadstool, devils hand, sun coral, sun polyp, and a little piece of favia) CUC - complete with mean CBS. I have no algae growing either ....is that odd?
Soooo.....I need to check my tank parameters for all that, aerate the stored water (for how long?) , drain and dump?
The reason I ask this, is that it's my first water change on my own (previously have had maint from my lfs do it cause I was a big chicken!!!!)
