They are just a cool critter to have around. It was under the sand at some point, right... except it's "spaghettis". Did you pull up that rock from the substrate and it maybe "left" it's tube behind?

It was just lying there in the sand most of it exposed. I picked it up with a feeder prong and set it on the rock so I could get a closer look. So it won't hurt any thing?

No, they don't hurt.... but they probably are hurt. They don't come out like that, he's probably dying.
Some peeps don't like them so much if they keep dragging stuff over nearby sensitive coral. Those little tentacles reach out and drag back food items.
