My black urchin is dying. Yesterday i put him inside a new tank, and this morning he doesnt look very well and so i moved him back to the reef tank this morning and when i got home from work he seemed to get worst. Most of his legs are falling apart from its body. He is still moving but in bad shape.
What can i do to help him? Should i put him in a seperate bucket from the water of the reef tank or should i just leave him in there and maybe he will recoup?
I heard urchin is secretes poison when it dies. If i leave him in the tank and it dies, will it be harmful to the rest of my corals and fish? i have mostly corals and pajama, firefish, scooter and madarin.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks

never heard of them emitting poison before....mine is a pencil urchin so I know they are different but mine loses his legs regularly and regrows them back.
Have you tried a water change? If the params are good and everything do you have algae for him to eat off of? Mine eats algae like a pig.
I've heard sea urchins are hard to keep alive in tanks but I've never heard of them secreting poison.
My advice would be to leave him in the tank, if he dies take him out.

Sounds like Osmotic shock (too rapid a change in salinity). If so it's probably a goner. Perhaps Ophiura has some ideas.
