I Need New Substrate!!

i was just wanting to know if i could use sugar sand in my reef tank....is it reef safe or not, does anyone know....i have like 50 pounds of it left over from a 75 pound bag that i bought for a fresh water substrate:notsure: :notsure: :confused: :confused: please someone help because i hate my crushed coral substrate and want to change it to sugar sand because it looks so cool and smooth in a fish tank???? please help...thank you

Do a search on this board for the vinegar test. I believe that tells you if there is some kind of impurity in it that would be bad for the tank. wish i could help more.

The vinager test shows if it is agronite. If you add vinager to a small bit of sand and it fizzes then it agronite sand, a good thing. Read the label on the bag the sand is in. People use sand designed for play boxes, used to be called southdown. Believe its oldcastle now. The real danger is if there is copper in the sand. If you run a mag in it and it pick up any metal I would shy away from it.
