I have yet to hear from somebody who regretted buying more light.
I just bought halides to add to my new canopy, and I'm delighted with the change. I have a 400 watt halide on each side of my canopy - a 10K bulb on one side, and a 12K bulb on the other. There is a BIG difference between the two. The 10K bulb makes everything look bleached and washed out. The colors on the other side of the tank look great. If I had my druthers, I'd have a pair of 14K bulbs...
