OK guys,
I am very confused. I have had my tank up for 8 days now. After just testing for ammonia and not having any yet, I figured why not check for Nitrite. Nothing. OK, Nitrate now..... It is between 5 and 10 ppm. Is that it? am I cycled? For those of you that read my previous posts, you know I have tested regularly, and never had ammonia. Is this possible? The test kit is brand new. I would appreciate several opinions on this before I start adding stuff. Thanks to all who helped out before!
Jerth, I had an US weekend, so I know what you mean!!

Any ways On my nano I didn't get my spike till about day 14-19 was its peak days.... so I think you are still on your way up..... what are you cycling with? It will have to Cycle..... no one is above that....
........ Also on the MH question you threw out to the other guy with the Home made pendant.... if you dont want to go that way with it Sun pod makes a nice system that will sit on top of it.... I am getting mine this week!!!

Maybe I just don't understand the cycle then. Why would I be getting Nitrates if I haven't seen the first 2 steps? I don't mean to be a pitb about this, but, I guess I will be..haha It was definitely showing between 5 and 10 ppm.

if you have some bio load on the system then you are going to have the nitrates, that is the by proudct! You will get the spike, don't worry about it.... it will be stressful enough with out the worrying!!! :hilarious What are you cycling your tank with?

You were right about the crabs. HOLY COW!!! They're all over it! If you ever want an accurate count of them in your tank, this is the way to go.

couple more updates: I definitely have algea growing on the duckbill, and the ammonia has claimed a couple pods that are floating around the tank. no question here, just an update.
