i think i have a hitchicker pistol shrimp....

hello all. Earlier in the week, got a paycheck... so obviously i spent it all at my local fish store! But part of what i got were some zoos. And i kept hearing little popping noises. Just single ones, not like a machine gun so i dont think it is a mantis. i thought it was a chunk or sand or something running through my filter of powerhead cause it was very small. Then two nights ago i was loking in my tank and in a little hole in the zoos something scurrys in there as soon as my eyes caught it. It was small and dark and i couldnt realy see anything so i thought it was probably a peanut work. Then last night when i was looking in there i saw two little claws sticking out. But one was bigger and longer and the other and looked like a pistol shrimp's. Hes realy small. The hole where he is is only about half a cenemeter in diameter. so i think i have a pistol shrimp now. Any thoughts? ideals? suggestions? Will i need to spot feed this guy some? Thought it was worth sharing too. Anyone else get a free pistol shrimp?

They are good scavengers though a spot feeding every few days would be good. I have four. Three are paired with praw gobys and one is on his own. Without a picture or more detail it's hard to tell if yours will pair with a goby if you got one. anyway they are fun to watch as they are forever working on their burrows.

i have a diamond goby in my other tank. yeah, i would like to get a picture and i would if i just borrowed one of my friends digital camera. But ive only seen the bugger twice, and just his claws. Thats how i know it is a pistole. Because of that big, long, skinny one.
ill wave some krill by his burrow tonight to see if he gets anything. The only fish in there right now is a morron clown, so not much food is being fed to scavenge. There are tons of amphiopods to keep him busy though.

oh well. I was still looking for one anyways, but didnt want to spend the money right away incase something ate him. Buuuuuuuut now i dont have to do that!
