My maroon clown has salt grain like spots by his gills, I think it's ick. I have an empty 10 gallon tank. Can I take my fish out of the 50 and start them in the 10 as a hospital tank? My other fish are baby clown trigger and baby huma trigger. What about my live rock, do I leave it in the 50 tank and let the ick die off in a month? Then do I medicate the hospital tank and put all the fish in there? Please help!

put the clownfish in the 10 gal hospital tank or buy some cleaner shrimps - they'll eat the parasites, unfortunatly they will make a gourmet brunch for your triggers, but they would help short term. Or you could buy a cleaner wrasse - they don't work as well but at least your triggers won't eat it. Why don't you post this in disease and treatment - I think you'll get more replies.

I think this way. ok the tank has the ick in it already treat the main tank. It will help the sick fish and also treat the others from getting ick. I had ick in my tank last week my yellow tang had it, i used a two day treatment. but i used it for four days, and then did a water change and fiter change it worked great. the stuff i used is called quick cure, its good stuff it will help. good luck.

I agree with b_ball. You're on the right track. I'd use the 10g as a hospital tank with copper as the medication. I wouldn't treat the main tank. Hospitalize for a month or so then return the fish to the main tank. Just keep an eye on the ammonia, since the hospital tank won't be cycled. Also, do a search for quaratine tanks on this site. You'll find lots of info. A little hint...listen to Trey. :D

Use water from your main tank to fill the hospital tank, that way it is already cycled and when all is done dump it from the hospital tank right down your sink.
