actually not really. We bought several home from the beach last summer (long story) and they are actually pretty cool to watch. They turn into different shapes and under the blue ac. lights they look lavendar.

Glass, Rock, Glassrose, an Aiptasia by any other name is still an Aiptasia.
Here is one that resembles yours.

That's an aiptasia.
I have some decent sized little monsters (4+inches) in my tank where I can't reach them that I plan on killing once I upgrade and need to take apart the tank. Yours seems to be reachable, kill it! It's definitely a pest.

where did the other pic go?? so what your saying is that this anemone is an aiptasia? The one at the bottom of this pic?

For everyone involved, Aiptasia is just the genus name. There are 22 different species and subspecies of Aiptasia. So yes, both pictures are of anemones in the Aiptasia genus, but I doubt they are the same species....
The two common nuisance Aiptasias that plague aquariums are Aiptasia pulchella and Aiptasia pallida
(I believe). Therefore if you had a different species, they could very well not be invasive like the common variety, and explain why some stay small, and some grow to 10"

Well said AquaKnight.
I'm of the mind set that if you can't absolutely identify that it is not a harmful species of Aiptasia (which I believe both these pictures to be), then get rid of it to be safe. I have some very large ones in my tank that I can't reach and I've just given up until I move and take apart the rock work. One ate my mandarin about 2 months ago. I have other anemones in my tank, WANTED anemones, but the large aiptasia can be a problem.
