To the OP;
I voted NO. I don't mind a little usless chatter. I can't think of any conversations that I have with anyone that is nothing but all buisness. I think life is to short to be totally serious any of the time.
Q.1- Yes, I think Bio balls are a good filtration. They do what they were designed to do very well. You, as one who employs them in your setup needs to understand that they need to be kept clean. Not squeaky clean, just rinsed off and rinsed off in saltwater. The bucket of water that you get when doing your water change is a great place and time to grab some up and toss them in there. Shake them around real good to get the nasties off and return them to the sump/refuge.
Q.2-While I have no direct experience with your skimmer, I would say that it is still breaking in some. If the tank is new then it will take a new skimmer longer to break in. It is breaking in and we know that due to the reduction of micro bubbles that are comming from it. As far as how deep of water it should be in, well that should be with the skimmer instructions. I will say that you want it in an area that recieves no water level flucuation. Skimmers are sensitive to water level varience.(sp)
Q.3-I would say you have a pistol shrimp. I hear the same loud clicking in my tank. It has never hurt anything in my tank. If I were to get a gobie for it to pair up with I might be able to see it for the first time. As of now, like you all I have seen is the claw. I believe I have the dwarf pistol shrimp due to its size.
Hope this helps. Good luck
