Alright, I am getting ready to build a 75 gal reef tank in the next 2 weeks. I plan on using a wet dry filter. I want see if you guys can give me any good recomendations on a GREAT skimmer. I do not want to have to buy it twice. I heard that EUROREEF has an awesome skimmer. I also heard I should get one with double the water size. This is where I could really use some experience. I will spend $500.00 for a budget! Also I am not to sure on the pump this as well as the powerhead thing. Help would be great!!!!!

I've had no problems with my EuroReef...but a better option for your 75 may be the ASM G3....do a search for info on them...same basic design as the EuroReef line....and they seem to work just as well.

OK, is the $500 just for the skimmer, or the whole tank setup? I would really like to see you get everything you need for a 75g reef with $500. It cost me like $1500 to get everything I needed to start my 55g and I'm replacing stuff now with better equipment a year and a half later.
As for the skimmer, these have all been very good suggestions. The only one I have to make is not to use the wet/dry. Go with the refugium from the start, or you'll be starting a thread 3 or 4 months from now complaining about your high nitrates and water quality. You'll even spend less money setting up the fuge vs. the W/D.
You might want to look into building a closed-loop circulation setup from the get go. Why don't you post everything you are planning to setup and let everyone comment before going out and buying everything. It couldn't hurt.

$500 IS JUST FOR THE SKIMMER I FIGURE IT WILL BE ABOUT $2000.00 OR MORE WHEN COMPLETE! aNYWAY I AM A NEW HOBBIEST AND DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE REFUGIUM SO I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO ITBUT I WOULD LIKE TO. DO I NEED THE OVERFLOW BOX IN THE TANK WITH THE REFUGIUM. MY PLAN WERE 75GAL TANK WITH STAND AND CANOPY , WET DRY FILTER, WITH A EUROREEF SKIMMER 150GAL, LIGHTING WILL BE 2 175WATT HAILDS WITH 2 40 WATT ACTINICS. I WOULD LIKE ADVICE ON THE POWER HEAD THING BECAUSE I AM TOTALLY CLUELESS. IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE IWILL NEED PLEASE LIST IT! I KNOW I WILL NEED FANS BUT NOT SURE WHAT YET!

I would go with a tank with the overflow built in... like the All-Glass. And get the overflow kit too...
As far as the sump/refuge... I would get a big rubbermaid container to use as a sump if I were to do it again... about $15 not $150 and it will be bigger too. put the partitions in yourself! and get the bulkheads to plumb it.

Any Quality Skimmer is going to run you close to your budget, You may need to recheck you budget. so good luck.
P.S I happen to like AquaC EV Skimmers though .:D
for the euroreefs, you may need to have good sump space for it. Make sure you check if your sump can accomdate the skimmer foot print.

The refugium would be hooked up the same as the W/D. Just look through this board and other places throughout the internet for info on setting one up. Basically, you use a dsb and macro algae for nutrient export. You can setup a sump with your skimmer and a section for your refugium all underneath your tank.
As for the powerhead thing, I read a thread on another board that was talking about a closed-loop system. Just go to your favorite search engine and look up closed loop aquarium system. I just built one for my 36g and in the process of building one for my 55g. I like the results so far. The closed-loop takes the place of powerheads and gets them out of the water. Setting it up with a SCWD gets the wavemaker effect going and looks cool. Within hours of setting mine up, my plate coral opened up bigger than it had ever been before. I have spent about $140 on 2 systems, pumps and all. Surprisingly enough, the pvc has cost more than the pumps. It is a good way to get circulation, wave effects, and less heat in the water.

I have a couple of web site that do custom fuges that I'm looking into for myself so if your interested i could help you out...
Also it looks like you have money to spare on your tank so i'd say go with the best low maintenance system you can afford.
I'd say 40 gal fuge with bio balls (yup they make em), 25 wat uv sterilizer, cpr overflow, etss skimmer, mag return pump
prolly about 800 for the whole setup.
you can run miracle mud or live sand with live rock/ruble/base rock
in your refuguim (aka fuge)
depends on how much u want prolly run u 2-3 hundred
if u dont have the funds, go wet/dry and save yourself 400 bucks
feel free to email me to ask questions

ER no longer ranks up at the top..its not even close in my book..There are much better skimmers out there these days..If you want the best I'd look at the Bubble King, Deltec and H&S...

Like Golfish said they are the true "Cadillacs" of the skimmer world. I don't know if the $500.00 would get you in the lot of a Euro?? ASM or Geo if that's your budget
