I set up the tank a few days ago and i just got the stand for it and stained it and everything. Is it ok for me to take the water out to move the tank and then put it back in? There is nothing in it right now except live sand.

Yeah that would be fine. If you had enough help I would try to leave the sand undisturbed. Just store it in some buckets and then put it back in after you put it where you want it.

Sid,
If you are just moving it around in the same house, you might be able to just drain the water and leave the sand in the tank and the tank on the stand. I just had my tank moved from one house to another in a box truck and that is what they did. I'll admit it scared the heck out me when they said what they were going to do, but they were insured and I could always use a new tank. :D
They lifted each end and put furnature dollies under each side and rolled it away.
This is a possibility and in no way am I telling you to do this yourself as if it breaks, it's your loss. If nothing is in the tank, it would be easy to just remove the sand and put it in buckets as suggested and I probably would. Just wanted to give you another option to consider.

Yeah you can put the water in the buckets. When you say live sand is it a DSB? If so I think you would want to leave the sand in the tank so as not to disturb the DSB.

We moved my 55 recently to a dif local in our house. I drained all but 3 gal and left the sand in. Put the water in 3 big plastic rubbermaid trash cans. We moved the stand first then put a piece of plywood under the tank and moved it quickly and carefully. Sucess. I think I held my breath the whole time it took us to move it!

When we moved mine all I could think about is PLEASE don't shift and crack the seams and cause it to leak but hey it worked out with no problems:D
Best of luck to you.

This is a 10 gallon tank? Just put the water in 5 gallon buckets, move it, replace the water without churning up the sand. Nothin to it.

if its live sand it wouldn't be easily stirred up however if its a DSB you'd likely be better off leaving it as it is.
When I first got my 75 gallon it was quite a fright. We had to tear the tank down from the original owners house and drain the water into buckets, put the live rock into containers and lift the glass top from the base, luckily my dad had his friend to help him take it to our house where it then ascended to the second floor through quite a lot of hard work. The tank looks great though, and i'm especially glad that it hasn't fallen through the floor yet :p
