nothing is more satisfying for a single diner as counter service.
tables are for families and fat people.
you sit down, the waitress walks up to you, and its a more personal, inviting experience.

i sit in the corner of the corner booth and wad up peices of napkin to throw in peoples hair---- its also fun to sit in the table right by the bathroom and get individual squares of toilet paper wet and try to toss them whole onto peoples pants when they leave the restroom

i am a pest- i never denied it

what exactly does that have to do with where you sit at a diner??? you like to sit up at the counter when you are with less than three people???
and dont you mean tables are for skinny people or families??? this could be why you are more comfortable sitting up at a counter... can barley sqeeze into a booth and after you eat all the bacon getting back out isnt the easiest task either... unless of course you use the grease to slide outta there...

The only times we go to a diner, is after a nice night of drinks/party to get some breakfast before bed, so all the local places are closed, so just "Casa de W"

(Waffle House). A booth because it's never less then 4 of us...

we sit in booths. I like sitting with my legs crosse like a little kid, and the counter stools never have backs on them which is really annoying.
and NO, Jersey does NOT have the best diners - PENNSYLVANIA does. 24hrs of the BEST comfort food on the PLANET, never more than 15miles from anywhere.
