Definately a no to the ones from your freezer. However small ice cubes will not make a big difference. Have you tried using a fan? also you can change your lighting times to run at night and will limit heat loading. I would never recommend putting ice cubes in a DT. I put blocks of RO ice in my auto top off and let the cold water help out more.

82* isn't that big of a deal as long as it gets up there and goes down gradually. Fans work well, and I'd only add the ice in bags if you have a sump.

i wouldnt put them in. i would probably look into a chiller, yes i know theyre expensive, but its necessary. while fish can live in 82, it is not recommended.

I guess all my stuff should be dead. Years ago I put ice cubes in my sump from fridge(filter on it) I have chillers now but I also have a 5 year old fish.

I have used water bottles filled with RO water, it works if you have a good supply of them. But fish don't like big frozen bottles floting around. This works but you better find a consistant way as your not alway going to be there to do it.

I've made SW ice cubes before, but they don't work as well as if you put frozen water bottles in the tank....wish I had money and space for a chiller!

I do.
I add half a dozen at a a time. I'm gonna be adding RO anyway to top off. Has anyone considered using their home RO unit to supply their fridge? Would be pretty easy, IMO. Then you have an endless supply of RO ice cubes. Mine is sitting in the office until we remodel the kitchen, but I'm definitely plumbing a line to the fridge and if it's not too hard, to a spigot near the tank for an ATO with a float valve.
