Icecap 660, mix and match bulbs?

By specification, the 660 supports this.
However, I've actually done it, and what I found is that the unit tends to overdrive the smaller lamps and cause dramatically reduced lifespan. I ran (2) 4' 110w VHO lamps and (2) 2' VHO lamps, and I was replacing the 2' lamps every 2 months or so until I gave up and disconnected them.
