ich and mushrooms??

question.....
my local fish place...has some ich in their tanks...all the tanks get the same water...so each tank uses the same filtration system...etc...
they have some blue/purplish mushrooms that i want...he said he is treating tanks..but i know how the ich parasites life cycle is..
so my dilemma is..i want the mushrooms..but am worried about contaminating my tank with free floating ich parasite then it gets on my fish...
i know from my readings that the parasite is sensitive to HYPOsalinitity..so should i dip or let the new mushrooms set in plain r/o water for a period of time like 10 minutes????????????????
thanks

It would have to be for 6 weeks. How is he treating the ich at the store? Hopefully not using any sort of copper. Tough call on this one. I do not know alot about fresh water dipping. I would find out the period of time to keep the coral in there. I'm not really sure it would be sufficient enough to kill ich. ich is pretty tough stuff. Regardless, if you drip acclimate and then put the coral into the tank, you shouldnt really be tranferring much if any water over. That in itself would also reduce the chances of ich. ??????

The ich cyst has a virtually zero percent chance of surviving on the mushroom itself. The problem would be any rock or substrate the mushroom(s) are attached to.
Could you pay for the mushrooms, have him keep them, while you set up a QT? A QT for mushrooms would be so incredibly simple. A 10gal tank from Wal-mart, a HOB filter, and a light fixture from Home Depot. $10+$10+$20. Since there will be virtually no bioload on the QT, you don't have to full cycle the tank. Add one piece of established live rock, and let it run for a week, then you could add the mushrooms.

well i bought a rocks with about 8 purple mushrooms on it and two heads of frogspawn..come to find out the place i spoke of above...i guess the tanks that had an ich issue...the corals were not in...he has two systems for filtrations...one for his livestock for sale and the other for corals..which he has a huge refugium and calcium reactor.he had a few fish in with his coral tanks..and one was a powder blue tang..it did have a few specks on it...
so i brought the corals home and dipped them both in plain r/o water..for about two minutes and swished them around to remove the crud on the rock..so hopefully i dont get any crap in my tank...time will tell...
i will keep you informed...

ok for you i guess but there will always be one fish that has a problem. so if i used your way of looking at fish i would have no fish! you need to look at each fish and the over all way the fish look . yes ifhave there is a large problem i agree. the best way of buying fish is to get to know the store and the pepole that work there. as for me the store that i go to they will not sell a fish that they think may have problem. but i have been to other lfs and 1 sick fish out of 300 does not count in my opinion
