The point of feeding a varied healthy diet is that it builds up the fish immune system, not to mention helps it grow. With a healthy immune system, the fish can withstand and fight off parasites in small numbers. So the fact that your fish were not healthy to begin with, I'm sure didn't help. Not saying that this is the only reason they got sick or died. But it helped a whole lot.
