after removing fish from the dt wouldn't the tank be ich free 5days? not the fish in the qt but the dt itself. starting with no host the tomont stage lasts according to beths sticky several hours then the tomite 4 days then in the theront stage several hours to find a host or die. this is assuming no fish are in the dt mine all died or are in qt and im wondering when the
dt tank will be ich free?

joe thanks for your advise but why 6 weeks ? with no host how can the little buggers live?
Most of the life cycle of this parasite is off the fish. So you need to wait the 6 weeks to make sure all stages of the life cycle have reached the point where there is no host to have fed on and die.

I tried to get away with a lazy response but my friend you deserve my reasons. If your fish when you removed them had Trophonts (free swimming) fall off. They have 18hrs to settle onto a substraight. Then 3 to 28 days in the Encystment stage. And then 48 hours to find a host in the (free swimming) Theronts infective stage.
Which is roughly 5 weeks and I like a week extra for the rouge. IMO six is the way to go

ok thanks i just re read beths life cycle and i must be mis interpreting it . the title caption says the life cycle of cyano is two weeks realising the tank can have no host . you say 28 days and i believe bothof you since your well experienced. i dont want to beat this old horse i m still confused but ive learned my lesson and will err on the side of caution thanks
