Hello! I had posted in the new hobbyist area and they reccomended I post here about ich. I had several fish in my tank and some snails and the fish all came down with really bad ich. I medicated and medicated, but slowly and surely they all died:( I however want to make sure my tank is in great condition before I but a cleaning crew I want and before I start with new fish. How to I make sure the ich is gone? Will the snails carry any of the disease? I was told by several other hobbyists to wait 6 weeks and that is fine I dont mind, but is there anything else? And the snails juts have me worried. Thanks for all your help! You guys are just great on here!!

Did your snails die? You usually can't use ick medication with inverts or live rock. I am going through an ick problem now and here is what I am doing and have been told. The only good and safe way to get rid of ick is to remove the fish from the Display tank if you have live rock and inverts and treat them with hypo for at least 3 weeks after the ick has disappeared off the fish. Then slowly bring the SG level back up to DT levels before you put them back in. Inverts and other aquarium animals do not carry the parasite but it will live in your water column and on the rocks and sand bed for awhile untill it dies off.

Nope my snails didnt die and neither did my live rock. Thats good that the snails dont carry ich, so in like 6 weeks I should be good? Of course as long as all my levels are good? Thanks for the info:)

Yeah, they say 6 weeks with no fish in the tank and you should be set.
