Three days ago i caught the early signs of Ich on my Black Onyx Perc Clownfish. I immediately set up a QT with a 15gal tank. Got my Coral Beauty Angel, Six line Wrasse and clown in the tank. Nitrates- less than 20; Nitrites- 0; PH- 8.2; Ammonia- 0; Salinity 1.023; Temp 80 degrees. I have been treating the fish with the product "Coppersafe". i have yet to see any change in the Ich. None are on the wrasse and clown, all seem to be on my coral beauty now. I have followed the directions 1 tsp per 4gal.... Three days in QT and product doesnt seem to be working. Any advice on how long i should give the product? Any other products i can use to destroy this crap? Can someone please explain Hypo to me?

How are you able to maintain good water quality on a QT that you just set up?

Why not try hyposalinity treatment?

I tried hypo it just didnt work for me. It does wrk in my case after a month of doing it asoon as salinty got back up to around 1.020 the ich came back. After the copper treatment once it went away it never came back. Now the issue swf lover may have is ich will still be in his display. So he will need to maintain good water quality in his qt to give the ich in his display time to die due to lack of fish.

So are you recommending that i increase the dose slowly over the course of the next few days? was it just an extra quarter of a tsp daily with the normal dose or did you increase the dose by a quarter tsp everyday (Like day 1- 2 1/4 tsp then day 2- 2 1/2 tsp then day 3- 2 3/4 tsp)?

I used a new 5gal batch of water plus tank water. There are no fish in my display only inverts. i plan on keeping the fish in the QT for about a week or two until the Ich is long gone. I read that Ich can take up to that amount of time to die without a host so i want to be thorough.

Slowly!!!!!! Like half a tea spoon per day. Too much copper is lethal. You want just enough to be effective. The 3 tea you added is the recommended dose. I think some gets absorbed into the tank and what have u

Woke up this morning to a loss. My Coral Beauty has lost its battle with the Ich..... I increased the amount of copper as you stated this morning so hopefully my clown and wrasse will remain Ich free. The Ich has left my other fish alone which continues to baffle me as to why. With the loss of the coral beauty am i expecting to see the ich now on my wrasse and clown? how long should i give my DT to be Ich free?

It takes 8 weeks without a host for ich to die off. In such a small tank, be sure to have premixed saltwater on hand to do emergency water changes, your fish may die from an ammonia spike instead of the ich. Have you been checking the ammonia level 2-3xs a day? I use the stick strips for that...any ammonia at all means do a water change.

The salt looking spots on the fish is only one stage of the parasites life cycle, so the ich may be there, but the other less stressed fish won't show any signs. The fact that one fish had it, means all fish must be treated and the display kept empty for 8 weeks...signs of the parasite on them or not.

Thank you Flower. I have my fish in a QT that has 12gal of water and nothing but inverts in the DT which is 29gal. I performed a water change this morning with water that was made the previous night in preparation for a loss. I never realized how stressful this hobby can be. I can attribute some gray hairs to this addictive hobby. The Ich has been in the DT for 4 days without host. is 8 weeks in a QT a little excessive or over kill?

8 weeks is what the experts here say is the time. 6 weeks is what I always read...8 to sure and I'm certain, you want to be sure.

A QT set up for all new arrivals from now on, will save you future grey hairs. I'm the same way, if the tank has problems...I'm stressed, and this hobby is supposed to be relaxing...LOL
