How long would ICK last in a canister filter (canister used to filter tank which broke out in ICK) ? Would it be neccessary to change the filter media or can i let the filter media dry out in open air?
thanks

If they are going back into the display then you could have left it running without any fish for six weeks. The parasites are still in the sand/rock. I wouldn't be so worried about the filter myself. The parasites will die off. Are you looking to use this filter on the qt? I am not sure that I fully understand your question.

I was thinking of using it as a dummy filter on my bigger tank that has been setup and disease free 2 years and counting ! therefore i want to be cautious before i put it on that tank or someones else's tank.
i dont want to transfer the disease to another tank via canister filter.

Okay, you can wash it well with vinegar and allow it to thoroughly dry.

I would change the media and thoughly clean the filter with some white viniger and rinse it until you can not smell the viniger anymore. Then air dry it over night.
