Ick

I have a 20 gallon QT with a flame angel and a hippo tank and a hippo tank. I think the hippo has ick but it could also be debris on his fins and body for week. The white particals come and go. My ? is does ick come and go and wouldnt the flame angel be showing signs of ick by now. Thank you for any help.

One theory is that ich is always present in the water, but only stressed or sick fiah will actaully suffer with it.
Yes, the lifecycle of ich means it looks lie it is coming and going.
Unfortuantley some fishes are prone to ich and Hippo is one of them.

Wouldnt you think the flame angel would be showing signs of ick by now. The hippo was great for the first two weeks of QT and then on the third week I purchased the flame angel and two days later the hippo starts to show white specs coming and going. I guess its a wait and see from here on out. Thank you.

I have a friend who has a hippo and he says it has an ick outbreak about every other month or so. But his cleaner shrimp take care of it really quik.

Well I dont want to have to worry about an ick outbreak every month in my display tank, so I guess I may do a copper treatment to the QT just to be on the save side. I hate like hell to treat the QT with copper but that seems to be the 100% way to get rid of ick. Thanks for your reply.

That I would love to due, but Iam without a refractometer and only have a glass hydrometer that reads a sg of 1.018. If I go and spend a $100.00 on the refractometer my wife thinks she then can go out and buy $200.00 worth of shoes to go with the 1000 pair she already has. I do see what your saying about hypo and I may have to find a back door to slip the money out to get one. Id rather do a hypo. Thanks for your reply.

I can save you $150. If you buy from SWF.com the refractometer is only $50. Then your wife can only spend $100 on shoes! What a Bargain! LOL

Just purchase one, but Iam sure she will still spend 200.00 can hear the money coming out of the account already.(LOL)
