how do you get ick in your tank and is there away to keep it out?need help two times now have gotten ick

Yeah, qt and treat if your fish have ich, your best bet is copper or hyposalinity but you will need to do some research to do it correctly and have a large cycled qt depending on how many infected fish you have, there's some good writeups in the disease forum.

take all ur of ur fish out for 6-8 weeks. treat ur fish w copper in a qt. after 8 weeks, put the fish back into the dt. icks need fish to host and survive.

The above are treatments, but without addressing the causes of stress in your tank, you may always face it. What were the circumstances and tank parameters?
Diseases like ick are often closely tied to stress. You may wish to consider an ick outbreak as a sign that something is not right in the tank.
