1) whats the algae next to the zoa's (id those for me too) its mossy, deep red almost burgurdy in color? More importantly what would be a biological way of controling it. The tank receives some sunlight from the window, but not exactly where the algae seems to collect.
2) My calcium levels... I use a reef salt, after a water change for a day or two, Im looking at 450. A few days later its in the mid 100's. and yeah I check it twice. It drops drastically. Typical? Or is something sucking it dry? I keep up on water changes every two weeks, about 5 gallons (24 gallon tank)
3) My live rock took off on me and I have a lot of sea grasses and crazy long plant like material growing. Any suggestions of places to look to ID these varieties, and these are all good things right?
4) curious for bioload and parameters?
10 nasarius snails
7 cerith snails
6 nerite snails
3 scarlet hermit
4 blue hermit
1 firefish
1 lawnmower blenny
hammer coral
toadstool leather
Alveopora
zoas
tomorrow from swf...
blue pygmy angel
b/w percula
firefish
cleaner shrimp
24g nanocube with PC lighting
79 degrees pH 8.1
0 ammonia, trace nitrates and phosphate
calcium at 160
alkalinity at 12dkh

Adding an Angel, percula, and firefish all at the same time is going to be quite a bio-load increase to you Nano.I think this wll cause you more problems. Also, I find it hard to believe your CAL level drops from 450 to 100 in a few days....I dont see anything that would suck out that much calcium. Are your test kits good? Are you using ro water?

I was concerned about the test kit. So I bought a second brand. And I get similar results. Its more like the end of the week the Calcium levels drop down into the mid 100's.
Ive read some more, I think the algae is cyano, and people suggest water changes, cutting back feeding etc. Im going to give that a try. See how it goes.
the bioload of adding three fish is not ideal, but we all know how ordering online fish requires certain purchases, and in my area I am limited on options for getting fish.
Thanks

I dont think that is cyano.Cyano is red. That looks more like hair to me check your phos and nitrates.

I had the same looking forest in my tank shortly after cycling but my cleaning crew took care of it in short order. The only critter I have that you dont is my two emerald crabs and they are HARD workers and love the green stuff. Well one of them is anyway.
and I don't have a blenny.

you do have cyano it the purple redish stuff on the rock and You do have hair algea. Try cutting back on food or switch from flake to frozen. Also maybe change your water flow for the cyano.

It could be bryopsis or common hair algae. The thicker, denser green could be in the Chaetomorpha genus. If you really want a good site for algae ID, check out http://www.algaebase.org/
Your angel should eat both.
