ID coral...

My friend gave me this coral because it was dying in his tank. He said it was sold to him as madracis ten-ray star, which I don't think it is.
I think I put it too high in my tank as it started to turn white so I put it on the sand and hopefully it turns darker again. But right now I know it's stress/dying because the pods are eating it at night.
So if someone could ID it for me, and give me advice on how to keep it alive, that'd be great.
Thanks in advance

Doesn't look like a madracis to me either. Too many septas and the coralites are too close together. First clue: there's more than 10 rays. Looks more like Leptastrea pruinosa to me.
