This sponge type stuff has infested my live rock over the last few years. Can anyone identify it and tell me how to get rid of it? It adhears to the rock like a layer of skin. I have been removing it manually, taking the rock out of the tank and scraping it with a dental pic and tweezers. Then brushing with vinager. It is now showing up on other rocks. Is there a natural way to control this stuff?

I had some sponge like that, only mine was clear. It grew over one side on my rock with some mushrooms on it. I just turned the rock over and buried it in the sand. Somehow the mushrooms detached and came to the top of the rock and the sponge died off.

I have that clear sponge too. I'm glad I read this so I can try to get it under control now.

I believe this black sponge started on a hammer coral. It doesn't seem to need any light to grow. Is anyone out there a marine biologist?
