I thought this thing looked really cool, but the guy who sold it didnt tell me much about it.
What is it? Lighting requirements?

It's a blueberry gorgonian. A poor choice - destined to starve without a great deal of appropriate foods and special care.
These are totally nonphotosynthetic. Either start reading - A LOT - or bring this back to your LFS.

Blueberry gorgonian, Non Photosynthetic typically not easy to care for. They require frequent spot feedings, zoa plankton and cyclops are good foods. They also require moderate flow to keep build up off of it as they do not benifit from the light.

Ive been spot feed my corals once a week the following
Zooplankton - L
Phytogreen - M
Phytogreen - S
Cyclops

To live long term, they, like most non-photosynthetics, really need large water volumes and a special feeding system.
This is probably one of the best non-photo systems out there:

But keep in mind: he has a HUGE system, and he spends a RIDICULOUS amount of money on food monthly, with all sorts of autofeeding and special prepped food.

how much did you pay for itif you dont mine me asking i got one about that size for 25 bucks about 5 months ago and i spot feed it every week with all my corals and weekly 10 gal water changes (55 gal with a 30 gal sump) and its doing great it opens up almost everyday

Yup that is my mandarin, by far my favorite in the tank.
