I have this stuff in my tank and it looks like red bubble algae, but it is very small and grows in clumps. My emeralds eat it occasionally, but they can't seem to catch up. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting rid of it? It spreads like the plauge I have scraped it off of several rocks, but it is on some of the bottom rocks as well.:help:

Ihad this on the bottom of my tank and on one rock i did something i should not have done but it worked, in the sand i got my net and scooped it out and on the rock it just died off after that you might want to try that just rubbing the rock and removing it, it`s a chance it might spread but it did work for me

If the rock is just base rock remove it and let it dry for a couple of days, scrap it off and replace the rock. HTH

Looks like Botryocladia skottsbergii aka Red Valonia. You can take the rock out of the water and pull the Red Valonia off. Or pull it off in your tank and run your protein skimmer, it should remove the spores that are released (at least it does for me). Good luck.
