the coral in the middle of the pics. it looks like a mushroom, but has a hard bone fill to it

I believe it looks like a variety of Scroll Coral, Turbinaria reniformis ~

I kinda think it looks a little like plating coraline algae. At least that was my first thought.

Be aware that "scroll coral" can refer to a few different corals, hence the problem with common names. Some Montipora and Oxypora species are also referred to as "scroll coral". This doesn't look like either one of those though. Thomas is likely correct saying it is a Turbinaria.
